Use of site is by donation base which directly supports land restoration, site use and continued care for our communities. Please reach out if you or a group would like to volunteer for ongoing projects.

Workshop: Burn & Sludge Bowls, Terrariums
$60 towards materials in learning how to make clay sludge bowls fired at nearby studio. Burn Bowl made of cedar logs and living terrariums to take home, re-gift etc. 1pm All ages
Tribal Plant ID Hike
Meet at Herons Nest bring water & snacks. Plant guide Bri Castilleja will guide us through the West Duwamish Greenbelt identifying Native Plants and their medicinal uses. Wear closed toed shoes, hike includes steep inclines and non graded trails. Free, all ages, donations accepted supporting guides and The Herons Nest.
Duwamish River Festival
Visit the recently opened restoration site, People’s Park for 2022 Annual Duwamish River Festival. Celebrate with community and organizations working to make the Duwamish River Valley a healthier space. Herons Nest will be providing FREE kayak tours of the Duwamish River. Kayak tours at 1pm & 3pm arrive early to get a seat.
Herons Nest will be closed on Sat Aug 6th to help support attendance at the festival.

Join us for the 16th Annual DUWAMISH ALIVE River Valley Clean up Event. April 16th 10am-2pm. Land stewardship work on site at The Heron’s Nest and across Parks and Port lands between Herons Nest and The Duwamish River will be focused on removal or invasive species in prep for fall planting

Edible Mushroom Log Plugging
Metamimicry will host a 2 hour Intro to Log Plugging Workshop in which participants will learn to inoculate logs with Lion’s Mane and Oyster Mushroom dowels, a low tech solution for growing culinary and medicinal mushrooms outdoors. We will cover selecting species of fungi and logs, log propagation techniques, and continued care and maintenance. Dowel packs to take home will be available for purchase, and all inoculated logs will become part of a food sovereignty program at the Heron’s Nest.
Class Capacity: 20 people (2 people per log)
Restrictions: Full participation will require the use of hands, but all are welcome to join, learn, and observe. All experience levels welcome, but this is primarily for beginner’s.
Block Print Making
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create a design on paper, transfer your image on to a soft carving block, and then learn to carve your design using a linocut tool. At the end, print your design!
No prior drawing or printing experience necessary. Materials and tools will be provided. Ages 8+ for tool use
